Putting Halloween to Rest!

Well all, Since Halloween is just around the corner, I think that I am laying all of my Halloween Projects to rest for the year.

With Thanksgiving and Christmas coming around the corner pretty quickly, New projects will be on the rise. Belly's will be getting full with all these good goodies the families will be cooking up for lunch or dinner.

So check back, I try to post about every day or every other, depend on how busy and how real life calls for my attention. As much as I like to woodwork/scroll saw, it isn't always worked into my real life schedule.

I have been fortunate thou, that most of the stuff has been taken care of, so it leaves me with free time til the pets need fed and watered or supper needs to be cooked.

Anyway, be looking for some Thanksgiving Themes and Christmas Themes as well.

Halloween Lantern Part 5 of 5

What you all have been waiting for, the last and final Part of the Halloween Lantern. Needs another coat of black paint on the outside. Other then that, She's ready to be lit up and be put on Display.

So here they are, Sorry for the mess on the table, BTW, if you can see it that is, it's currently 11:00p.m. here in Indiana, and I turned out all my Lights to take these pictures to give you the full effect of my Camera and the Lantern.

Halloween Lantern Part 4 of 5

The Cat vs. The Eye. Who will Stare who Down? Find out who s bigger then who in the next stare down, Coming to you at your nearest Crafters made possible by Handi Productions and Crafts!

Lets move on Shall we? Me and Betty are Crafting this Lantern, She has just finished her Cat, my Eye was already finished, so I was waiting on her to Finish up The Cat.

Now that we are more then 1/2 way done with this Project, here is the next Step! I will trim off A Total of 1/2" from 2 Panels, 1/4" on the left and 1/4" on the right. As Each Panel are 8 1/2" Wide. Triming down 2 Panels at 1/2" will give each panel 8". This will give me an Exact 8"x8" Under Panel, as the Base.

The only other Alternative would to, Cut Finger Joints in all Panels, Still giving me 8x8 Base panel, But instead of doing so, I've just decided at this point to use butt-joints with small 3/4" Nails. The Reason, My Table Saw doesn't have a Miter Gage Slot on either side of the Blade, This would prove almost impossible Free Hand, and the time invested in such a Simple project, not to mention, it's getting colder threw the nights, and my Shop (Garage) isn't Heated, and I would need my Life Size Heat Rock to keep me warm while I work.

So we are going with butt-joints with this project. After this is done, All insides of the panels will be Painted Orange, so when the Candles are Lit, It will give off an orange Glow, as if it was a real Pumpkin, Then all Panels on the outside will be Painted Black. So no Light can be reflected off of it, so it gives it the feel of a Void space lit up from no where.

So my Next post, Will include the Panels painted and put together as the final Step in this 5 Part Project. I will be looking forward to all of your comments!

Halloween Lantern Part 3 of 5

Ok, Moving right on along again, with 2 more patterns to my Lantern. Here is a Black Cat Pattern that will be on one side of the lantern.

Here is and eyeball pattern, that will also be on one side of the lantern. Here's Lookin at you kid! I'm Keeping an Eye out on you! I like the way you Look. Hmm, anyway, once these are scroll sawed out, I will be posting the finished product after it's cut and sanded.

Halloween Lantern Part 2 of 5

Moving right along it seems, pretty quickly. Just got the first 2 panels done, Sanded down with my Orbital Sander from Craftsman. Not a real good sanding Job, but hey, they are gonna be painted.

As much as I hate Painted wood, This will be beneficial to the project.

So here is the First 2 Panels we've done so far, Sanded, but not painted.

Following the next post, I will be posting the next 2 Panels that will be cut and Sanded.

Halloween Lantern Part 1 of 5

I have Temporarily Decided to Postpone the Antique Calendar Project, Just because of Halloween coming up pretty quickly, within a few weeks.

So to take the Place of the Antique Calendar, I've decided to do something a little Halloweenish. A little Scroll Saw Project.

Similar to a Pumpkin Carving, But with a Scroll Saw, and no messy Hands to clean afterwords, just pants to Dust off!

The idea behind this project, is to create a 4 sided box, with Halloween themed Patterns, Kind of like a Lantern with Scary faces, witches, black cats, etc. Here are 2 Patterns I've chosen so far, for 2 sides, once decided on the other 2 Sides, there will be another post, and then a 3rd post to show off the finished product.

Hope you enjoy the Patterns, and the Finished Project afterwords! My old lady is learning to use the Scroll Saw herself, so she is helping with this project to give her some experience with using the Scroll Saw, She has CP, so it's a little harder for her to do, but this will her with coordination and hand exercises.
